Default 10 speed transmission issue - need advice!

I have a 2019 F150 w/ the 2.7L EcoBoost and 10 speed (4x4) with 85K miles (bought at 65K); yesterday a buddy and I were driving out to go fishing. After about 30 min on the interstate the truck starts shifting funny (skipping gears it shouldn’t skip)…I keep driving and hope it’s nothing..maybe 10 min later the wrench icon shows up on the dash. Once we get to the fishing spot, I try reverse - it’s gone. We go fishing, let the truck cool off and drive it back to my house (1 hr)…on the drive back, it shifts better until it warms up. I got the transmission flushed about 5K miles ago at the ford dealership. My buddy who was with me told me that could be a catalyst to the issues and his mechanic advised him not to flush the tranny on his Chevy because it can do more harm than good (has anyone had this experience?). My question is do you think I’m better off taking it to the dealership or a reputable transmission repair shop? And am I likely looking at replacing the tranny (guessing yes)? Any other insight would be great.

I’m new to the forum - thanks in advance for any advice.

Hmmm. I know flushing can be dangerous for these modern transmissions. From my understanding the most common issue with the new 10 speed is a valve in the valve body gets trash in it and gets stuck, but I'm not a huge expert either. Dropping the pan at 30K miles after plenty enough breaking has taken place and changing the filter is supposed to be a really good idea to prolong 10R80 life, and get good performance from it. 10R80 uses ULV fluid, and not LV fluid. If you trust your transmission shop for being very competent, and knowledgeable about 10R80's then I would be will to use them as soon as I would a dealership if the trucks out of warranty. Hopefully it's just something like a clogged VB and won't require a rebuild or replacement.
