Has anyone been able to remove passenger side valve cover without evacuating AC to remove line? If so how?

Remove the passenger side motor mount and let the engine rest on the cross member. That is the ONLY way.

Wow. I don't think the folks that have been getting that passenger-side valve cover out (without discharging the AC) are pulling motor mounts. Better have a hoist to get the bolt back in.

That being said, I really can't see how the hell these other guys did it. The claim is that if you unbolt the condenser/accumulator from the firewall and fender (requires battery and battery tray removal) ... that you can move it / pull it over a couple inches and get the valve cover out. Well...I certainly CANNOT.

It's the way I and all the other Ford dealer technicians did it. So what surprises you? You don't need a hoist, just a floor jack. It's a whole lot faster and easier to remove the motor mount, trust me, when Ford pays you half the required time under warranty you will find the easiest, quickest, cheapest solution

P.S. The condenser is in FRONT of the radiator.

Well...I finally got it out ... gonna cost me a VCT solenoid however. Shoulda ponied-up for some new seals and removed the solenoids before loosening a single valve-cover bolt.

P.S. Yeah...I'm definitely no A/C tech. Blows cold? Works! Blows hot? Broken! That is the extent of my expertise with A/C components and vocabulary.

For 2004-2008 5.4 3v: I am also trying to also remove the passenger side valve cover, and plan on removing the passenger motor mount to give me more room. Does anyone have any tips on doing this? At first glance, it looks like I need to remove the starter motor to get to the third bolt on the motor mount. Does anyone have a link or tip on taking the motor mount out?

if you remove the computer, battery, battery tray, loosen up the bracket that holds the AC thing, remove the wheel well liner, and nudge the dip stick and AC line a little you'll be able to remove it without messing with the engine brackets. Don't get me wrong it is a pain the *** to get this cover out but I'm thinking that remove the engine mount to get to it may be worse. Another option is to have an AC place evac your system and refill it when your done. That route you can just remove that AC thing that causes most of the problem with that side.

Thank you very much for the information. Thanks to you, I was able to remove the valve cover. To my surprise, I found that (cylinder 2's intake valve's Cam and rocker arm closest to the front of the truck) was "scored, discolored, warn" more than the other 11 cams/rocker arms. Has anyone experienced similar issues? What is the next steps? Do I need a new cam? >??

glad to hear you were able to get that off. The discoloration and scoring if only on that cam lobe may just be that the follower came apart. You will have to remove cam to get to the follower and while you're in their I would check all the followers and lash adjusters which I'm willing to bet you'll find all need replacement. What prompted you to get I there in the first place?
