Water in Diesel
 

I guess Ford wont cover the repair bill for the fuel system on the newer 6.7 diesel engines when they discover the part failure was due to water in the diesel.


Has anyone had any success suing the gas station for that $8k + job?

That is crazy. New truck are supposed to be better than the ones they replace.

Im fixing to pull the trigger tomm on a 2016 6.2.. The stories Ive read like above for the diesels scare me lol

Ford's water separator is a complete POS. Draining it regularly is mandatory. The big problem is it only holds a couple ounces and then the water goes right through it. It isn't a lock-off seperator. If you get a slug of water that exceeds its capacity, it goes right on through and you're screwed. The typical order of progression is :
1) water siezes HPFP
2) siezed HPFP causes cam to break
3) broken cam causes valves and pistons to "interface" -- engine is now 1200 lb. of scrap metal.
4) Ford says "water in fuel, negligent maintenance, no warranty, you pay".

Its completely effed up but it hasn't happened enough to generate a class action suit, and likely nothing will ever come of it. Someone in engineering needs to lose their job over this useless water separator

Have you guys considered running an aftermarket fuel/ water separator? Something that is easy to remove for shop warranty work.

I believe if you go to the same spot and Keep all your receipts you can make gas station pay. I believe it would go thru your auto insurance, I read this on a forum someplace and then asked my own insurance company and they told me the same that this isn't "common" but they have had it happen.
