Lite Up The Twins
I may strike some nerves but I have to put in my 2 cents.
I bought a 2010 F-250 brand new. The only warranty repair work that had to be done on the truck in the 2 years that I owned it was a bad thermostat.
After the first year I added Toyo Open Country MT's 35x12.50x18 and a
4 1/2 " RC lift with Dual Stablizers. Also added a Bully Bar to the front.
The rims were Black XD Series hoss. The truck would get looks and comliments every where I went. It felt really good to know that the truck your driving is BADD AZZ. Its a REAL working truck made to haul REAL loads. They call it Super Duty for a reason. I would not buy the truck to be a daily driver because these trucks love to work.
Some of the negatives to owning a Diesel are:
Diesel gas costs more, The DPF filter system sucks, my gas mileage was 13 Mpg's before I got the lift and tires on and only 10.7 after the lift and tires. I hand caculated 8.7 actual miles to the gallon highway.
When the DPF goes into regen mode right before you get to work its not good to NOT let the system complete its cycle, you can, but after about 4 times you will have to ride around burning a lot of extra gas just so the darned DPF filter can clean itself, otherwise it will attempt a cleaning every day until complete. I have cost myself a lot of money just riding around while the filter is cleaning. It really wears on you fast.
Diesel motors take a long time to warm up in the winter and be ready to not have a warm cab near as fast as your gasser. Also, once the DPF filter decides it wants to purge the burnt ash from your DPF filter be ready to get the bird flipped at you for fogging people out.
As others have said here, the DPF system taken off will get the best gains on gas mileage and speed etc. The problem is, that the motors are VERY EXPENSIVE. Not too many folks have eight to ten thousand dollars laying around to buy a new Diesel motor because the one that you just modded out with a Spartan tuner, DPF delete etc just voided your warranty. I never did any mods because Ford will VOID your warranty if so much as getting a new Cold Air Intake. Ford will void a warranty on this motor quicker than any other Ford motor due to the cost of replacement and repair costs.
Ford warranty on the motor is 100,000 miles, so if you want to void the warranty be prepared to pay big if something happens. Some on here will say, well my dealer is a mod friendly dealer and does not care. Let me tell you how it works now, Ford dealer files a claim for any warranty work needing done so they can get re-imbursed from Ford. Any motor warranty work that exceeds a certain dollar amount will constitute a Ford Warranty rep to personally visit the Ford Dealer to verify if any mods are on the truck or if any were used. If the rep finds any mods what so ever the warranty will be null in void, and dont think they cant find a foot print in the computer for a tuner either.
I traded my F-250 in a couple of weeks ago for the new 2012 F-150 Ecoboost I have now and so far love it. My payments went down, my Insurance went down, the cost of gas went down vs diesel. Dont get me wrong, I miss my F-250 only because I loved the aggressive looks but I am really liking my new F-150 FX4 Ecoboost and am glad I made the switch.

just a tough work truck
My truck was almost out of warranty when I had it and I built it to race and pull with and the motor is more likely to give a way getting choked by the dpf then tuning it especially when guys still baby it after tune.
