If you need the payload of a 250 and don't need all the capabilities of the powerstroke it can be worth it. There's a whole lot less cost in both the truck and the maintenance compared to getting a diesel. The 6.8 is just as solid a motor as the 4.6 and 5.4. Just make sure the previous owner changed the oil regularly.

What about mpgs? I'm not expecting 20 or anything like that. I'm thinking some where around 13-18? It's 4x4

I've never owned one personally but I wouldn't expect more than 15 unloaded on the highway and more like 10-12 loaded or in the city. I don't really hear about people getting under 10 in them, but it's pretty rare to hear over 15 as well so that's probably about the range you'll get. If you don't have a gas saving daily driver I'd try to get by with an f150 instead of going to a gasser super duty.

I'm also looking at a 6.0L with 212k on the clock but I'm thinking that might be getting to high.

Well, it depends on what has been done to it. If it hasn't had any major repairs, you don't want it because it will need them, but if everything has been replaced, EGR coolers, head gaskets recently, if it's got head studs, high pressure oil pump and things like that it might not be a bad buy. People will tell you the 6.0 is junk but if they're updated and taken care of they can be a good motor. Either way you want to make sure whatever you get is in good shape and not falling apart and more than likely you'll be fine. What do you need a 250 over a 150 for?

I had an 01 screw 4x4 fully loaded that my parent traded in for a sport trac and I've wanted another one ever since.

Ah. I like sport tracs, we used to have one. It's hard to beat a nice big truck though. Like I said you can't really go wrong as long as you get a good history on the truck before hand and check it all out.

Yeah my sport trac was fun. But nothing beats a f250 4x4 diesel.
