I have an 06 350 4x4 CC that i drove of the lot with 7 miles on it. Rite now it has 131k on it with no major problems yet. Oil changes every 5k and fuel and external trans filter every 15k. Use only motorcraft or fram filter which ever is cheaper usually fram.

id definitely like to hear more opinions about the 6.0, i will be looking at one tomorrow. clean as heck. 04 f350 crew cab with the 6.0 about 200k on her!!!!! I am not scared of miles on a diesel, as i believe with the diesel trucks in this time of age they last a long time if you maintain them. but are they reliable? am i gonna get another 200k out of this engine? or should i stay away from it?

Personally I'd look for one under 150K miles, especially since injectors on these trucks normally dont go past 200k without replacement ($4000 job). If there is a white-chalky residue on or around the coolant bottle, it has blown headgaskets. Expect to spend $4000-$7000 to fix. The EGR system MUST be upgraded or deleted. Get all the maintenance records too, these trucks require very high maint. to keep them in good running order. BOTH Fuel filters must be changed at 15k miles on the dot, oil at 6000k miles or you will reduce the life of the injectors, change coolant once a year or you will clog the oil cooler if it isnt already clogged due to neglect. Also the addition of a coolant filer will keep contaminants out of the cooling system prolonging the life of the coolant.

The 6.0 is an amazing engine when you take care of the flaws (of which there are quite a few). I wouldn't hesitate to buy one in good condition with maintenance records. I'd suggest buying from a private seller vs. a dealer. A dealer will clean the truck spotless to hide any known issues and burn all the records to keep you from digging up info.

Not trying to scare you away from buying one of these beast's (Im looking into purchasing one in the near future), but you have to make sure the previous owner(s) took immaculate care of the truck. You dont want someone else's headache.

Everyone knocks the 6.0 but the 6.4 was actually a worse motor... Not to mention a straight piped 6.0 is probably the craziest sounding diesel out of them all

Agreed my brothers 6.0 was straight piped into a 10 in stack and it was an orgasm to the ears. I loved driving that thing with the sliding rear window open and the radio off.

The 03-04 had the most issues. Find an 06-07, most of the kinks were tweaked by then. Head studs, egr delete would be the first thing I would do if I bought one.

Our '06 6.0 F350 was awesome. Fixed a turbo issue, and never had another issue. It regularly pulled our 18,000 pound toy hauler like a champ. We traded it in for a new 6.7 F350, and although the 6.7 is brilliant, I often miss that 6.0...

i currently have an 05' 6.0 FX4 with 130,000 on it. disconnected the EGR when i drove it off the lot new. Have never had a problem of any kind. i add a additive at every fill up for lubricity as i think ultra low sulphur fuel is the cause of a majority of issues.

Having said all that i'll be trading it in soon on a 150. tired of paying an extra .50 a gallon for diesel.
