Default Superduty 250

I thinking of upgrading from my 2014 f150 eco. to a 2019 or 20 Superduty 250. I’m pulling a rockwood 2506. DW about 7000 lbs. Any thoughts on what towing package I should get. Want to be safe just in case I get a heavier camper one day.

Buying Diesel? get a 350. Gas? go big get the 9900 GVWR payload option if you buy a 2020

With a loaded weight of 7000 lbs, your current rockport could be pulled by any newer F250/350. I agree with MikeD134 about the 350/diesel, 250/gas. For future trailers, if you plan to stay under 10k gross trailer weight, a gas will be more than sufficient and cheaper in the long run. If towing a trailer regularly that's 10k+ pounds, go all in and get a 350 diesel.

No matter what, whatever Super Duty you end up with, it will tow your current trailer with ease.

If you re buying new remember that the F350 only costs about $1800. more than a F250. Spend the extra cash on a diesel. I just went thruough this same dilemma about 2 weeks ago. I upgraded to a diesel and I love it

Everyone I know with diesels have either already sold them, or will replace them with gas engines the next time. The local hospital has gotten rid of all their diesel engine ambulances and replaced them with gas, the last few years the county public works dept has bought new trucks with gas engines where available and all the school systems have been buying school buses with gas engines for the last 3-4 years and phasing out the diesel engines. It is just not economically feasible anymore.

Ford sees the writing on the wall and that is why the new 7.3 gas engine is coming out for those who need to haul heavy and don't want to deal with diesel.

I can tell you what I'd do. I'd buy an F250 with the 6.2 gas engine and 3.73 gears. It'll actually tow and haul more than an F250 diesel because of available payload. The diesel is technically rated to tow more weight, but will run out of payload before it reaches max tow rating. That combo will easily tow your 7000 lbs and could handle over 10,000 if you want to move up. It won't pull it as fast as a diesel and it will burn more fuel. But it's also about $10,000 cheaper initially, fuel is cheaper, you don't have to buy DEF, and the long term maintenance costs will be a lot less.

If you need to haul really heavy then find one with 4.30 gears or wait on the new 7.3 gas engine.

I got rid of my F150 with a gas engine for the 6.7 powerstroke and will never go back to gas.
