Super duty Gas v8 or Ram Diesel
 

I can get both for the same price. What would you do. I prefer the super duty interior and prefer the ram exterior and it would be nice to have a CTD but maintenance would be more.

I commute 75 miles per day and tow a 7000 pound trailer once a month.

Power stroke superduty cost too much.

If I lived anywhere where salt was put on the roads, I wouldn't consider a Ram. Forty years of watching Dodge trucks rust helps me come to that conclusion.

I picked up my 2015 early this year for $36k. It's not a platinum but it's not a stripped down "work truck" package either. Came with the brush guard, headache rack, step-bars, B&W hide-a-ball, and an aftermarket 5th wheel tailgate. Perfect for me.

Depends on what years we are talking about. I had an 06 Dodge, it was great. 15-16 in town. 20-25 hwy, 12-16 towing 10K lb camper. 226K miles and the only major repair was fuel pump, lines, and injectors at 215K miles.

Are these new trucks you're talking about?

These are new trucks I'm talking about. I can't get a 2016 Ford diesel new for that price. Plus Id only take a 2017 superduty.

Questions stands, which one and why? Is a ram diesel better than a gas superduty? Equally equipped. Tradesman/XL

As a guy with very limited knowledge of either (I've test drove both and know people with both), I would say for what you're doing the gas Superduty will be the ticket. Like you said the maintenance costs on diesels are insane (so are repair costs), and you have to add DEF. A 7k lbs trailer isn't much for a gasser, especially on a once a month occasion.

I commute 128 miles to work and back each day and this is where I wish I had a gas truck. My oil changes are every couple months and would be a lot cheaper in the case of a gas truck, not to mention right now I pay $2.61/gal for diesel but gas is $2.39. It already costs me ~$100 a week in fuel, and right now it would be a little cheaper with gas lol. I drive an '06 6.0 PSD BTW, not either of the trucks you're looking at.

When I looked at the Cummins (2016) it just didn't feel right to me. It was a brand new truck and I couldn't pin point what would make it better but after test driving it, I just didn't get the "that's my next truck" feeling. I was literally signing paperwork on a '15 F-350 CCSB 6.2 gasser when my truck rolled onto the lot and I asked the guy if it's too late to look at that truck. Sure enough I fell in love with my 6.0 and I'm glad it rolled onto the lot when it did. I can't say I loved the 6.2 persay, but it did fit my needs wants and desires and it didn't feel weird and off put like the Cummins did to me.

Interesting. I'm in CA so diesel is about .30 cheaper per gallon than gas before our upcoming increase in gas costs due to our commy govt.

I commute 70 miles per day and do all my own basic maintenance. Hopefully the maintenance costs can be minimized.

I lean towards the diesel because it will get better mpg and it feels better to me in a heavy duty. I have an EcoBoost now and I'd miss my low end torque.

I have lots friends that own Ram 6.7s, big complaint is the electrical system and electronics on the truck, not so much the powertrain, its HVAC, windows, gauges, etc. Then its front end parts wearing out all the time.

Go Ford and dont look back
