Questions regarding the 6.4L and myth about the 6.7L?

The 6.7L Powerstroke is a great engine. Don't let DEF stop you from moving into one. I used to have a 2011 F-250 with the 6.7L diesel. It used about $40 worth of DEF every 10k miles, which if you look at it, is about the price of a gas truck's oil change. The biggest reason I sold my truck was the cost of insurance (considerably higher than a 1/2 ton here in VA), the cost of the oil change (about $120 instead of $40), and the price of diesel (when I had my truck, it was over $4/gallon). There wasn't anything about the truck itself I didn't enjoy. It was a great engine. I also didn't haul anything and I don't forsee that being an issue as long as you drive it far enough between shut-downs. Diesels like the be driven for longer periods of time, and a lot of short 10 mile trips will wear it down much faster than 50 mile trips.

How is the 6.7L Is it alright if it's just going back and forth to the store without a load? The reason I ask is because my "local" jobs are upwards of 500 miles away and at least for the first few years it will have to be my daily. Later on I'd get a car and the truck would be there for when I want to go camping. The whole point in my looking at a 3/4 ton+ truck is because I want a trailer or camper.

I have an '08 2fiddy 6.4 with 132K miles on it. Deleted everything at 105K right after it went out of warranty. I've had no issues with the truck other than front wheel seals at 52K, belt tensioner/seat heater element/blend door motor/ all at 100K. I waited to get everything done just before the warranty was up. Deleting is removing DPF/cat, installing a pipe and muffler, and tuning the truck. I bought a used tuner and pipe, and a new muffler. It was $1000. Oil changes are $100 at the dealer. That's only $6 more than I could do it for. All the horror stories about the 6.4 seem to be coming from guys that are running big tunes and breathing the snot out of the truck. A roofer in my neighborhood did my roof. He has an '08 for a work truck, and it's got 175K on it. He said he starts it in the morning and doesn't shut it off til he gets home. His mph avg on the meter is 5ish. If you religiously maintain the truck, you'll be fine.
That said, mine is available

Thank you guys.
The money isn't an issue as far as maintenance, my issue with DEF is it's just one more thing to buy that I wouldn't have to buy say for a 7.3. I know repairs will be a lot more expensive, but I want a truck that will live past 300k, not quit at 200k which is why I'm looking into diesels. Personally, I won't buy a new F-150 as I've heard and seen some horrible stories with the aluminum bed. With that being said I'm in between an F-250 and Ram 2500. I'll probably look into this 6.7 a lot more as it sounds like people really like it.

OP...your first post says you are looking into a new truck. If an aluminum bed is a no-no then you are looking at 2016 leftovers. You cannot factory order a new 2016 F250 any longer. The 2017 is all aluminum (including the bed) just like the F150.

hey you mean to tell me that Chevy commercial was skewed! I don't think so just ask those "real people not actors" lololol but yes mudslinging is tasteless whether it's for trucks or politics or anything else
