Experience with the 6.2L towing

That is too bad. The F150 with the 3.5 EB will easily pull 8,000 lbs. I would expect if you are careful with options and rear end ratio the F250 with the 6.2 will be fine too. You need more rpm to get the torque out of the 6.2, so a higher rear end ratio would be important.

Just a quick update, we looked at both the Ram 6.4 CC 4x4 SLT and the F250 XLT 4x4 CC 6.2L. Both almost identically trimmed save for the additional Alpine speakers in the Ram. Both with 3.73 rear axles, F250 with elocker, Ram with the LSD.
Numbers for each:
F250- 9900lbs GVWR, 2674lbs available payload as equipped
RAM- 10000lbs GVWR, 3080lbs payload as equipped
Ram wants extra money to downgrade it to a 9900lbs GVWR, not that it matters really since our insurance does not change with that. However, the RAM as it stands is significantly pricier than the F250 with equal trim. I can't say one is nicer than the other, they are both nice trucks, comfortable, and well mannered. Seat of the pants- I would have to give the power to the Ram. But that is just my impression when we took it out for a good pedal smashing. The overall look and feel of the F250 seemed to stand out to us though. Felt more presence with it. Overall price- the Ram is about $5000 more however Ford was REALLY aggressive this time around.
So, we have the final packaging and OTD pricing. We are going to mull it over and decide if it's worth upgrading or if we are just going to skip it and stay with out current TT or go a little smaller. Just given the price tag, the F250 is the front runner. Wish me luck. Hopefully the bank will bite if we decide to do it

I can't tell you what it weighed but I towed a 40 foot travel trailer with a 6.2 and it had a ton of *****. More then my old v10 it seemed even. The only give away that it was a gasser was the rmp gauge.
I can't tell you about unloaded fuel mileage but loaded it won't do what a diesel did. That being said, maintenance cost less and they make a ton of power. Go try one out and see what you think.. I had nothing but problems with my 6.7 power stroke so I got rid of it. Was thinking about a 6.2 for awhile but still have yet to jump on anything.
No experience with a dodge but a ford has a straight axle front which is a lot less moving parts and heavier duty for a bigger truck. Something to think about for sure.

Any decision Smurfs ?
I'm in a similar situation. Maybe getting a larger TT in a year or two, and going to an F250 mainly because of the payload of our F150. Haven't looked at anything yet, but doing some advanced research.

Yeah- we decided to put the brakes on for a bit. To be honest (and I know I will get thrashed for this) the F250 wasn't even in the same league as the Ram 2500. Far less responsive than the 6.4L, interior wasn't even close to as nice, less payload (even though the Ram was a higher trim), and more money (when I beat them up on price on the Ram they REALLY moved to beat Ford) but... we just decided to wait until the refresh and look again. I actually had the paperwork ready and was heading to the Ram dealer to sign- but my gut was telling me something, and I don't ignore it- coupled with some turmoil with work. For now we are just going to keep our trips short and play the axle rating game with our current TT. In a couple years- the 2 oldest will have flown the coop, so we'll be in a better position to make a decision- and in a better weight position

This is an old thread guys, but I thought I would put in the final update so it could be tomb stoned.
We moved on a barely used (2014 with 20000kms) Ram 2500 Limited 6.4L 3.73. The GVWR is 10000lbs and even in the limited trim it is just shy of 2900lbs payload with tons of tow cap.
Thanks for all the input, appreciate it! Still enjoy seeing those Fords but this time around it just wasn't the right fit.
