engine block heater
 

ok i got a 03 250 with 6 litre deisel it came with engine block heater but how and when do i use it?

I used to have 2 GM diesels. I put a timer in the garage and had them go on about 4 hours before I had to leave when the temp got around 10-20 F. Don't know if was required, but it made them start alot easier.

Use a timer to help cut down on the electrical bill and save the block heater. Most will heat up the engine within 2 hours, any longer and you are just keeping the block warm. While there is nothing wrong with keeping the block warm you are not gaining anything by doing so. If my memory serves me right the 6.0 has a 1500 watt heater in it so make sure that the extension cord, outlet, and timer if used will carry that much current.

You can also get a flat adhesive heater for the bottom of the oil pan. They use less watts and can heat -40 degree oil to 160 degrees rather quickly. These types of heaters have come a long way in the last 10-20 years. Amazon carries them, Katz and Wolverine also. I have always used the tank type heaters, but now have three newer outfits that have no block heater of any kind. I ordered up 4 of the flat heaters. You can even get them for ATVs.

i have a 2005 6.0 diesel. i know they all come with engine heaters but some don't come with the cord. i have trouble finding in the outlet on the truck and where can i get the cord for it?

Are you sure they all came with a block heater? The 6.4's all came with block heaters but only "cold weather" states got the cord. The 7.3's didn't all have block heaters. I didn't think the 6.0's all came with heaters. I got the chord for my 6.4 from e-bay. Nebraska isn't considered a cold weather state. I will try to remember that next time it is 20 below zero.

okay i mean here in bama it doesnt get very cold but it does get into the 30s and 40s. i notice my truck is cranky in the 50s so i thought if i have a heater why not buy a cable and use it. i read somethin that said that all 6.0 did come with the heater but the option "engine block heater" from the dealership just meant the cable since the heater was already built in. u know what i mean?

Did you find a cord?

i have not looked for it yet but i am almost certain it doesnt have one.
