IDK if they have changed anything with the 6.8L in the last few years but we have a 2004 Excursion V10 4x4 to pull protection boom up at our military outload port and it weighs approx 10,000lbs and we have to pull it UPHILL for about 200'. The tranny only lasted about a year doing that about two or three times a month. We just sent it off to be either fixed or DRMO'ed (decomm'ed). Truck only had roughly 60k on it.

My brothers excursion 2000 (old engine, heads) is running SC and has over 110k on the clock, it tows like a beast... Love that truck, nobody expects it. He has the older vortech kit when they used an intercooler from a diesel (plumbed for water) as the air to water intercooler. With some mods I think he is putting 12-14 psi through it. Sounds like a 747 taking off when he gets on it.
Pulled a fully loaded F350 from Las Vegas to LA on a heavy trailer, could tell it was there but pulled it with no problems (would have towed better if he had actually put the load distributing hitch setup on, not the brightest move). He either drives that or his 66 Mustang daily.

So this is sorta related so i figured id use the same post. My brother has a 1999 f250 v10, and the exhaust manifolds are kinda shot and some studs are broken and leaking. Ive been looking for replacment manifolds or cheap headers but i cant seem to find any for a 4x4....or am i just looking in the wrong spot. Its just a work truck so dont need nothing fancy

just a tough work truck
You know people with a 6.4 that get in the low 20s? Well you need to join the diesel forums and spread the word, because people think the 6.4 is the biggest gas guzzler ever. Best I've seen in ours is 18, and people still think that is either a miracle of a lie when I tell em.
