6.7 powerstroke
#4
I just sold my '11 6.7, and haven't looked back. Like MTZ said, there are some issues with the '11's. But by '13, most the bugs were worked out.
I had a DEF pump ($1200) go out at 55k and a turbo ($3200) go out at 62k. Luckily these were covered under warranty.
Then last week my radiator was leaking at 65k, so I traded it in.
Other 6.7 owners have had issues with the pyrometers. Causing the entire truck to shut down even if at highway speeds!

Other than the obvious reasons the diesels have to offer, why should I or anyone looking at a 250 size truck get a diesel over a gas motor. I ask this not in a derogatory way just curious for my own needs. I like the OP am looking at a new truck and considering moving up to the 250 size and have debated this point in my own mind and research til I have a headache. I guess what I am trying to ask is in the long run, big picture and all that crystal ball gazing, would I be better off. Like less repairs, lower repair bills, a lot more durable on a everyday basis. Obviously some car mfgs have been using them for decades. In Europe, not that I want to be like EU, but German tech is very dependable.
I do not abuse my trucks, but I do not shy away from using it for what it was made to do either. Hopefully someone who made the switch awhile ago or just recently chime in and offer some advice. Sorry I did not mean to hijack the OP thread. Or direct me to a prior thread. I have done research I guess I just need a little more.

My 5th is about 15k lbs. Really, there was no choice for me but a 6.7. I traded in my 6.4 that was good, but the 6.7 is a powerhouse.
I don't drive mine in the winter (trying the save the body from Michigan winters), and it's driven about 80% of the time with 5th in tow.
Went out west last year (purchased F350 in May of 2013, ordered) and it pulled up and down the mountains effortlessly. Cannot tell you how many times I went by other rigs (gassers and other make diesels) up huge hills.
Because of the cost, I would not buy if I didn't need it. But I love what I got.

That is a nice setup.I was like you, there is no other choice but the ford 6.7.I had a 6.4 also but it would go into regen way to often and eat the fuel up.It also had radiator issues so we traded it on a 12 f350.My toy hauler loaded is about 15,500lbs and this 6.7 is a powerhouse compared to the 6.4 and my old 7.3.
