Default 6.4?

Considering trading my 06 5.4 to a 08 6.4 f350 single 4wd. Anyone with knowledge for/against the 6.4 power stroke? The 6.4 has under 100k. My current 5.4 has under 80k. Not a towing/trailoring question, and this truck will most likely never see mud. Just wondering about the 6.4 motor.

6.4 is the best motor they ever made besides the 7.3... But that was an international! I would do this I a heart beat! You can get so much power out of a 6.4 tuning wise it's literally insane! If you get the 6.4 I'd advise putting some turbo work into it (Borg Warner 675s would give you more power than you knew what to do with) an tranny is solid! Good luck with your decision!

I heard if you do a few things to the 6.4 it is a very reliable motor. But I also have friends that have 6.4's and had nothing but problems. I think something like dpf delete and egr delete makes them way more reliable. But I'm not a diesel guy so I'm not really sure. Look in the super duty section of this forum and there is lots of info on there. I wanted a 6.4 at one time too and I learned a bit on that section but forget most if it now lol but the info is there ! Gooduck!

we have two 6.4's and we like them we really started to like them when we deleted DPF and EGR and do not recommend buying a 6.4 if you do not delete all the emissions stuff, delete it and never look back

The emissions strangle the 6.4 and give really bad has mileage. Delete the egr, dpr, intake, turbo back exhaust and tune and it will be near flawless. 550 rwhp and 900 to 1000 feet torque. I'm considering getting a 6.4 or a new 6.7 in a year or so so I've been doing my homework on them recently

Well I appreciate the info. It's all pretty much what I've been reading elsewhere too. I'm going to look at the 1 ton tomorrow and go from there. Thanks again guys.

If its not under warranty or is close to the end do a DOC/DPF delete and an egr delete and it will be a lot more powerful get 20mpg and be more reliable.

i loved my 08 6.4, dynoed 588hp and 1181tq with dpf/egr delete, 5 inch exhaust, flo pro intercooler pipe, H&S mini max, and S&B intake. drag raced it 5 times and ran 12.91@103mph and never had one problem with 92k on it
