Are the 6.0 liters really that bad?

I own a 6.0L now with 97K miles. No problems so far. A friend of mine that works at the engine assembly plant says that most of the head gasket failures are caused by aftermarket programmers. I do have a chip in my truck, but I use only the lowest (50 hp) setting.

i work for a repo company that had 3 6.0L diesel trucks in the fleet. two of them laid down at the same time because of ICP/ chaffed wires and throwing a bearing into the intake. all of them had 100k or less. then the third truck had egr problems. not to mention they are a bitch to work on. i prefer the 2nd gen. PSD those trucks go the extra mile

I was not happy with my 04 6.0. EGR issues, turbo issues. It seemed everytiem we went on any extended trip there was some other problem. I sold it basically right after the powertrain warranty ran out. It was never 100% right the entire 3 yuears I had it. Bought a 2010 F150 to replace it.

my grandparents have i want to say an 04 F350 lariat with the 6.0. The engine has been nothing but trouble. The thing has been limped in or towed in to the shop numerous times. It hasn't been the actual engine that fails just the surrounding components. They bought this truck used w/ fairly low miles and as far as i know it is bone stock, no tuners or anything. Hope this helps. I was looking to go diesel before i got my 150 5.4. If you want something you can beat the hell out of on a daily basis look at the 7.3 with the manual tranny. Everything I hear about them is that they're bulletproof (uncle owns a '00). If you want something more recent look for a well serviced and up to date 6.4 and you ought to be ok. You may never have a problem with a 6.0 but that's certainly a bet i wouldn't ever take. The 6.7 that ford is going to make themselves sounds sweet but who has 45k to shell out on a work truck? good luck in your diesel search.

I have an 05 f 350 6.0L powerstroke diesel, i love it.
It has just under 120,000 miles on it. I have no problems
with it. I have a 25' inclosed trailer, it weighs 14,000 loaded and tows it like there's
nothing behind it.

i cant wait for the 6.7 i might trade in my f150 for one ive been reading up on them and the 6.0l is a gamble alot of lemons probly half of them are junk and the 6.4 is worse from everyone i know that bought one is unhappy with it poor fuel milage antifreeze leaks wicked hard to work on the navistar 6.4 is junk international 6.0 is better 7.3 international is best so far i think its time for ford to show why its the best with the 6.7

I too had the same issues. Owned an 05 F250 6.0 w/80K miles on it. Didn't drive the truck hard and took very good care of it. Ended up going through 3 turbo's..one at 60K, 75k, & 80K. One turbo went as I was towing a boat with a truck full of people. Warranty was about to expire this year, so traded it in for a 2010 F150.

I'm the odd man out here. My early build has 145K and runs like a scalded dog and I tow a 27' trailer in the Sierras. Original injectors, oil cooler, early Garrett turbo, and round tube EGR cooler. I've replaced ball joints at 140k and installed a coolant filter. I must have got a really good block with very little casting sand to plug up the oil cooler. Some were just better than others.

all depends on the year the first year to 6.0 came out they were... and still are crap had a tone of problems... but the new year 6.0s have been tested and pulled out the stops and fixed MOST of the problems. but they still have the normal diesel issues. i would most defiantly recommend the 7.3.
