lol, funny you said that, because I was talking to a guy today, that is thouroughly disgusted with ford. His son has a 2004 SD 6.0, and has had nothing but problems with the injectors since they day he bought it. I guess he bought it used with about 20,000 miles on it, and has about 90000 now. Said he hasnt gone 10,000 without having something go wrong. But his neighbor has an 06 with over 200,000 miles, and his runs great.

Well, thanks for the responses. I suppose I'll keep them as an option on my list (cautiously), but if I can find a low mileage 7.3 I'll still go for that first.

Yeah, 7.3L are suppose to be better and more powerful... Never drove on tho... If you find on with 100K or less miles, jump on it!

Personal experience with both older 7.3's and the newer 6.0's go with a 6 litre and dont look back. The older 7.3 motors are great but get worse fuel mileage and the likelyhood of getting a low mileage truck is slim to none. The newer trucks the 6.0 is not at all friendly to modification you start adding boost and the head will lift and the motor will go to **** real fast. Transmissions i have had both good and bad luck I think it is a draw. But you really can pull and get decent fuel mileage with a 6 litre I used to get 22mpg highway and anywhere from 15 to 18 pulling a trailer depends on trailer type or the speed and load. But if you really want some good info about all the ford sd diesel stuff just get on youtube there is a guy on there that is a mechanic he has a step thru of the ups and downs of either motor pretty good stuff.

I personally think they are great trucks. Every vehicle is going to have small issues, but there is usually pretty easy fixes just like the 6.0 Super Duty's.

I have an '05 6.0 and had no problems until Nov when the EGR system "went out" I lost the use of my truck for two weeks. Luckily, I had extended warranty and all it cost me was $100. Otherwise with the tow, rental car and repair it would have cost $4000. It was back in the shop last week for the EGR "Cooler" and something else. Another rental car for a few days and another $800 bill (only $100 from me). Well, my extended warranty expires on 19 Feb 10. Another (24 months 24K miles) is $2400 but I will reach the 24K miles in about 18 months. After that....no more warranty. I'm looking at trading back into a beefed up F-150 SCrew with the 3.73 limited slip rear end and max trailer towing package which will allow me to pull my 7500 pound camper.
I just don't like the current trend of the truck and it only has 77,000 miles on it.

my mom has a 02 with the 7.3 its fairly quick with alot of towin potintial still wish she would at least put an exausrt on it cause it seems like its gonna run forever

my dad had an 04 with the 6.0 it was a bad S>O>B i loved that truck.... but he blew an engine at 60000 miles auto trans and then once he got it back after getting it replaced put another 1000 miles on it and blew the next 6.0 but after that and 75000 miles no more problems traded it for an 08 tundra about a year ago needless to say if you get the 6.0 plan on putting money into the engine b 4 you buy it

6.0 's usually are known for blowing the turbo or head gasket because with the need motor they failed to put in a heavier duty gasket my gdads did this at 36k miles and its been running like a champ since. if your buying one either 04 or 05 just make sure to ask if its blown up already if it has then your good to go
