350 450 diferance

What is the difference between the 2. How much heavier is the 450 than a 350 and are the towing specs the same.

The 450 weighs between 600 and 1000lb more depending on configuration. The 450 has a higher GCWR and Tow rating. The 350 has more payload by about 1000lbs on average. They both have a 14000lb GVWR. So really it's a matter of bigger brakes, wheels tires and heavier frame for the 450. Its artificially limited to 14k GVWR by Ford to keep in a non Medium Duty Truck Class. Its really probably capable of much more if it was working at it's TRUE capacity not the artificial 14k.

You want to compare the F-350 Tow Boss, which has a different front end setup than the standard F-350. The F-450 should be detuned from the factory (less power) and come with larger commercial grade wheels, 19.5". This will make tire choice limited. The F-450 is quite a lot more truck.

They call it the Wide Track now. It's basically the 450 front axle with the 17 inch wheels of the 350, and with a 4.30 gear set. I drove one when I bought mine. I had it overnight, it turns a lot tighter than a standard 350, but the 4.30 gears were way too deep. At 70mph it was screaming compared to a 3.73 truck.

I loved the look and the sharp turning radius, but the rpms at highway speed killed it as a daily driver option. Also I don't think they detune it until you go up to the 550 now.

They've changed the line up a little now I see. You can get the F-450 as either a standard full fledged pickup with all the power and trimmings, or get the cab and chassis F-450 which is detuned.
