Default 3rd brake light in Hicth receiver

I picked up a 2018 F350 four months ago. It is our daily driver and also used to pull my 5th wheel. I have not pulled anything else with the Class V hitch and have no immediate need to. Thought it would be a cheap safety addition to add one of those 3rd brake lights in the class V hitch. Sort of a plug and play if you will. So I read all the reviews and there all over the place with mostly good reviews (4 stars).

So I buy it and the cord doesnt reach. Then buy a extension and a week later hook everything up. Turn headlights on and it lights up as it should and IMO looks great. So I go for a drive and then my dash starts pinging with a notice and it comes up that a trailer is attached. (which there isnt one). This light is plugged into the 4 way in the bumper. Then 10 seconds later another ping and another notice that says trailer is now disconnected.

Well these messages and pings continue cycling at 10 second intervals which makes this set up totally useless and annoying. I bought this model which has a regular 1157 bulb since my truck DOES NOT have the LED package so I figure it would be compatible.

Amazon Amazon

Not a lot of money out and I actually moved it over to my 5th wheel hitch so all is not potentially lost. (havent tried it hooked up yet) Does anyone out there have any other unit comparable to this that actually works in a newer/late model Super Duty? If so what product line is it?

This set up has 4 colored wires. I only need the brakes lights to work (running lights would be nice too) which from reading would be the brown wire. The Yellow and Green is the turn signals which I think I could cut and leave the white ground intact. I havent wired any trailers but it seems logical that maybe this would just add the brake light feature on this 3rd brake light and maybe not keep triggering the trailer connect/disconnected dash warning on my truck? Or are the new trucks too sensitive for this to be able to work correctly?

Thanks in advance, Jim
