I had a 2016 250 gasser and liked it fine. Shifted good, but drank gas like a pig. Pulled 8-9000 lb camper fine. Got heavier camper and went to a diesel. What a better pulling engine!

I've had my 6.2L F350 now for a year, very pleased with the towing experience and mpg is better than with my then F150. I did go with the 4.30 gears and am happy with them.
Running empty which I don't do very often I can get anywhere from 13 to 16 mpg, depending on speed. Most of the time it is around 14 mpg mix driving.
The Transmission in the SD is the same tranny as the 6.7L Diesel (thru 2016) so it is different than the F150 6.2L transmission. This SD tranny shifts excellent, in a 2017 F350 6.2L would still be using the 6.7L tranny and the 2017 F250 6.2L would be using a new and lighter Transmission but I do not know the difference between it and the then 6.2L F150 Tranny.
Nice part of the SD transmissions is both 6th and 5th gears are overdrives, so with 4.30 gears I have no hunting of the transmission gears while towing, makes for a pleasure experience while towing my RV Trailer.

Last Spring on I-10 between Phoenix and Las Cruces NM @ 70 mph I avg 10 mpg.
I've notice as I get more Miles on the engine my mpg's are going up, both empty and towing.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I have a 2011 FX4 5.0. And pull a 7500 to 8K travel trailer. I'm getting around 8 mpg towing with bigger E rated tires.
I know my next truck will be a F250. Just can't make up my mind if I need/want the extra cost that goes with the diesel.

If you stay under 12K on your Trailer then the 6.2L will do you fine, the 4.30 gears are the way to go though.
More expense with the diesel and in my case I don't need it now or in the future so I stay went with the gasser.
I too had the E-rated tires on my F150 but now towing with the heavier SD truck, different axle ratio and more torque it is a very enjoyable towing experience.

I've been looking at both and part of me thinks I should just go with the gas, save the money and the expense of the diesel. But man that diesel felt great on the test drive.
The question I'm facing is : 2016 diesel or 2017 gas?

If you don't need the diesel do t get it. Risk reward isn't great enough to just drive around town. Only way I would get another diesel is if somehow the emissions were legally removed and the truck could run like a diesel was meant to!!
