It's a shame seeing history burn to the ground...

Heart breaking news! Hard to watch but I couldn’t look away from the TV.

It's a shame, a massive piece of history lost or at least severely compromised.

I've been there, you could feel the history in the beams. Having seem old mill buildings WITH sprinkler systems burn, I doubt there was much to be done. Once ancient timber starts burning, there's not much you're going to do to put it out.

800 some years olde, just think of the things that place saw, not to mention the architecture. Think of it, that place was older than North America. We have nothing even remotely comparable. Until you set foot in buildings that olde and older, you've never felt history. A great loss.

Sounds like they were able to get the Crown of Thorns and some of the art out at least.

Just thinking of the hundreds of years of eyes that gazed upon those same ceilings.

It's a truly impressive building, you can feel the weight of time on you when you walk through. They rebuilt Europe after WW2, this, while difficult, will not be an impossible task.
