Default Jeep grand cherokee? Yes or No

Currently have a 2003 screw xlt 4.6l v8 f150...90,000 miles on her. Im real worried some common high mile problems are going to arise, thinking about trading it in for 8500 and paying the difference on a 05 grand Cherokee. Question is any guys happen to own a jeep as well and can you tell me if they hold up well? Reviews on them are so mixed.

I'm a Ford guy and a Jeep guy. Both of my daily drivers are Grand Cherokees. One's a 97 and ones an 04. I love them. They are super easy to work on if something breaks (if it's a straight 6).

They're not good on gas, you're looking at 15 MPG. I do miss my 89 full size Bronco, but that used to require parts quite a bit.

just my .02 on the Jeep front

When did 90,000 become high miles? I thought we killed that line of thinking about 1985.

An 05 will probably have the 3.7L, they haven't proven to be as durable as the old straight 6's. 2005 was the first year for that model style too so there's probably a couple other kinks in it too.

My brother has had two, a '96 and now a 2001..the '96 had a 5.9 L and actually got better mileage than my F-150..it fell apart over time but the engine was still strong...his 2001 gets decent mileage and runs like a champ and is very good off road..

I'd buy one-go get the 5.7 L it has gobs of power and decnt mileage if you stay off the go fast pedal.

Both of them were Grand Cherokee Limited with all time all wheel drive, leather, sun roof and the works...

My sister has a 05 or 06 grand Cherokee limited with the 5.7.its a very cheap feeling ride, very plasticy. It's definitely got some nice power though. She's had quite a few problems with here's but nothing to $major$

Imo any thing after the wj aint worth squat. A jeep with ifs!?! Keep the truck. If you really want a grand cherokee id consider the older zj's rather then the newer wk's.

My only contribution to this conversation is my experience while perusing CL...I see a *ton* of Grand Cherokee's for sale...cheap. Late 90's, early 2000 models.

Usually when you see a lot of a particular vehicle for sale, there's an underlying reason. I know its anecdotal evidence...but food for thought.

Conversely, the Jeep Cherokee Sports that pop up in good shape are quickly gone. That was one on my short list when I was looking to buy my son a car.
