Wiring on 77 F150

I just bought a 77 F150, it turns on fine and drives fine. a week after i bought it, i tried taking it for a drive. it drove fine for a block. After it shut off and wouldnt even crank. i was able to fiddle with the ignition and found out that a wire was hot. once it cooled off i was able to turn it on by just turning the key. Anyone has any suggestion? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...816aaf39bf.jpg

the one that gets hot is the orange one thats all black

Thanks appreciate it.

Sounds like a short somewhere, I'd check inside the distributor or elseware for a bare wire.... look closely it may be hard to spot.
It's possible it's the grey box the orange wire it is plugged into also. Usually the truck just simply won't start if the box fails. ALLthe above i have personally experienced.
Hope it helps.

Just re-looking at the pic, it looks like the plug is pretty new and could possibly mis wired.
I just replaced mine and the colors didn't all match so it took so.e due diligence to wire it correctly.
Just another possibility.

Ignition switches on these are famous for failure. Replace the ignition switch and you should be good to go. If you pull it apart, you should see some obvious signs of failure.
