Smog compliant engine swap on an 84
Hey all, I'm looking at a truck online to buy right now, an 84 factory 300ci truck with the original engine and trans removed and a 302 from a 94 (I think) Explorer ready to go in. The dude rebuilt the Explorer motor, ported and polished the intake ports and put on an aftermarket intake for a carb, exhaust, and a few other basic hop up parts. As far as I know in order to get a swap like this legal in california it would need all the smog and fuel delivery equipment from the explorer, and I'm wondering how hard and how feasible something like this would be.
My other thought was to keep the 302 carbureted and say it's donor vehicle was another 84 F150 and use smog crap from a truck of the same year, but would only be interested in this if its less of a hassle than the newer junk on the explorer.
Lastly, if anyone knows how to make the engine a legal swap engine for this truck without changing anything that would be best, but I have no idea if the new parts are CARB legal or if the motor would even pass emissions when it makes more power.
Thanks all, any input is appreciated.
