Default replacing a radiator

Greetings,

I have sprung 3 leaks in my radiator of my 1979 F150 Supercab. I was wondering if there is any place on line that offers the best price for a radiator. The local shop was wanting $300 just for the radiator plus installation for a total of $550.

Which leads me to this: I have never changed out a radiator before. Is it more complicated than it looks? Are there any points I should consider if I take this project on myself? Thanks for your help.

i would suggest buying a hanes manual on it, is the truck your main driver or do you have a back up. you can find a radiator shop that recores them cheaper then buying a new one

rockauto.com and lmctruck.com have been mentioned as pretty good sites. JCWhitney might be another option, but watch out for the shipping charges.

As the previous post-er mentioned - the local radiator shop might be able to re-core at a competitive price as opposed to a complete replacement.

Radiator replacement is pretty straightforward. The difficult part is to get enough stuff out of the way so the radiator can be pulled, and to be careful with the auto tranny cooling lines.

Here is one source for your radiator. But first look for a good radiator shop.
they should be able to repair it for less then new one.
