Question about 1977 F100 engine swap
Hey everyone,
I have a question for anyone who has any insight. I have a 1977 F100 Custom with a 300 Straight 6 in it. My dad bought it brand new and we just got done restoring it. I am looking, in the future, to swap out the engine and want some ideas. I have debated an ecoboost but am not sold on it. I want to make the truck a sleeper. I would like to make the truck do well on long trips as well. any suggestions on motors that will fit in the engine bay and between the frame?

Id go with a mild built 302. But thats just me. Seems like a lot of work to wire and plumb that eco boost. Plus fuel delivery... and then figuring out the tranny.. I dont image theres any room for a inter cooler. Auto trans cooler in that year of truck.

Thanks for the insight Johnboy429bbf. I was debating a 302 as well but not sure. the 390 is intriguing to me as well. if it was between the 2 either 302 or 390 what would you pick? I can get a donor vehicle with either engine to make the swap for pretty cheap.
Edit: or a 351? if 351 should I go Windsor, Cleveland, or M

If you was going 351... always go Cleveland.. most reliable motor ive ever had.. wish I never sold it.. lol the 351 m is tough but cranks like a big block and makes power like a small block bad combo for a sleeper truck..
The 390 is a tough big block. 4 bolt mains with small block stroke and big block bore. Probably a direct bolt in for that truck minding the oil pan.. a little more expensive to build then a 302. Depending on what your wanting to do. But there are mountians of 302s around.. (I have a few around) and theres mountians of high proformance parts on the cheap. The smaller size means lighter weight... and a thousand ways to build them 302s means lots of hp and torque combos..

awesome. got any 302 that you would be willing to part with if I'm close enough? I saw that problem with the 390 being expensive to build. I think I'm liking the 302 idea!!
