Question Power?Electrical Issues 1978 4.9L

Hello Everyone!

I am a new F150 owner. I purchased an old '78 on eBay as a project for $510 in Washington DC. I flew from Texas and picked it up in DC and drove it all the way back to Texas! No problems. It was a champ on the roads!

I have been fixing the tailgate and other small spot of rust on it. I replaced the Battery as a preventive measure. But everything was running great.

I drove it to work one day and when it came time to leave and go home, the whole truck wouldn't start. no lights on the dash or anything when I turn the key to the on position. no click. dead in the water.

I tried jumping and still nothing but the cables (with are brand new) started to heat up and smoke a bit so I stopped. I checked connections, fuses and went ahead and replaced the starter solenoid. still nothing.

Any Suggestions???

Garrett

Heat in the battery cables is proof of high resistance. Regardless how new they are, they're junk. Click this & read all the captions in the photo album:
