New motor/bad fuel mileage
So, I have a 1983 Flareside that I just installed a new 302 in. I bought the long block from Oreilly's, put all new parts i.e. oil pump, fuel pump, water pump, etc. A remanufactured Edelbrock 500cfm from Summit on an Edelbrock Performer intake and Hedman long headers. The motor runs smooth as silk, fires right up and is as quiet as can be. Problem is I'm getting 11mpg and that's when I baby it. Now I haven't adjusted the carb any and I mean to do so but will that make that big of a difference? Any suggestions on how to improve my mpg? The original 302 burnt and leaked oil, had lost a lot of compression and knocked like crazy if I ran anything besides 93 octane in it, but it got 15mpg, sometimes better. All suggestions welcome and thanks in advance.

Does it seem like it is running rich ? Gas smell at the exhaust ? Black soot in the tail pipe ?
Check a few plugs, see what they look like, photo them.
Check your oil to see if it smells like gas.

That's borderline impossible. How exactly are you measuring & calculating it? Click this, read it, & its caption:

Click the text BELOW the thumbnail (which I didn't realize I forgot, but I've added it now), &/or use a real computer with a fullsize monitor.
