Thumbs up

You can find the origional engine that was in it by running the VIN...try here...

http://www.lovefords.org/Vin/ford/6069/1965.asp

if it doesn't work, just do a google search for "ford vin decoder" and it'll tell you what the heck you're looking at. winpedia is pretty good about telling you exactly which digits mean what

Thanks. I suspect that the engine wasn't a 1 for 1 swap when they replaced it. I was told by my Father-in-law that he was told the engine is a 426 or 7. I was going to try to get a rub of the casting number on the back some how. I figure the casting number is the same as a Chevrolet block on the drivers side above the fly wheel.

Do you know of a web site that will tell about the engine from the casting number? My son use to go somewhere for the Chevy engines.

I found this information at this URL http://raceabilene.com/kelly/hotrod/engine.html (looked better as a grid).

Now all I have to do is remove my starter and take a rub to see for sure.

All of Ford cylinder block casting numbers are usually located on the passenger side of the block. Most are under the starter on the cylinder block. They can run horizontal or vertical this is where they’re usually located, and yes most of the time you will have to remove the starter to see it.

Engine block casting numbers and misc data. No guarrantee of accuracy or completeness.

It has been some time since I have restored a truck. Recently I was given a 1965 Ford F100 PU from my father-in-law to restore (it is mine if I restore it). The truck is pretty basic. Not much rust but normal ware and tare.

Next weekend I will be going up to pick it up and bringing it here to start work (its in OKC and I’m in Houston). So I don’t have it right now to check it all out.

My Father-in-law says that it has had an engine transplant. It was changed before he got the truck.

One of my questions is: How do I find out what engine size is actually in the truck? Where do I find the block number and where do I go to find the year and size of the engine and where do I find what engine the truck should have had? This information would be good to know before I start getting parts.

Next question is: Where do I go to get the list of options that were available for a 1965 PU? This truck is automatic with no power brakes or steering but does have some sort of aftermarket air-conditioning under the dash. I have heard that often times the dealers installed air-conditioning at the dealership but the system was Ford. I figure if air was a factory item, I would try to get a factory air system and do away with the after market one. Make the inside cleaner looking.

Lastly, where are the better places to get needed restoration parts for this truck? I bet everyone has a different preference. I just don’t want to rediscover any bad experiences.

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
Here's website you will like. It's the Slick 60's Truck Club. It's all about '61 thru '66 F100. Since you live in Spring Texas, there are several members in the Houston area that would be glad to welcome and help you with your truck. They have a lot of great looking trucks.

Ran across your link to Slick 60's form and tried it. Doesn't come up, and wondering if it's shut down maybe??

I'm searching for a site that has older F-350 info. None here that I see.
I have a 65 dually I bought in 1980

Steve
