Need help 1976 f250 4x4

Hey guys, I bought a 1976 f250 highboy yesterday. I didn't realize till today the the rear diff is shaking and moving around underneath. I know I have to put support bars on it but I forget what there called. Anyone know how much this will cost and were I can buy them from? Any info would be awesome. Thanks!

It's could also be something worn out underneath. Anyone have any info that would cause that?

not sure if you mean traction bars? I wouldn't think you'd need them unless you're getting a lot of axle wrap... and i'd guess that would likely come from very worn leafs, or large lift blocks, or way too much power for the stock set up... although I'm certainly no expert

Alright thanks, I'll have to check underneath to see what's going on. I know there's no blocks. I'm almost sure it's a highboy which is a 4 inch lift stock. Also it has 35' tires on it.

If the axle is moving around there is a huge problem and shouldnt be driven til fixed. Maybe a bit more explaining or info would help.

So it turns out the high boy came stock with a 4 inch block lift and the old leaf springs arn't helping. I'm going to Eather put a 4 inch lift and get rid of the blocks or put them support bars on there. Apparently a common problem with the highboys

yeah I don't like lift blocks period but having them on a steering axle makes me even more nervous. I bet you piece together your own lift pretty cheap... get some different shackles (not sure how they mount, so not sure if they'd need to be taller or shorter to get lift) and maybe an AAL... I think 4" is doable for pretty cheap... but some nice new leafs with the proper lift would be ideal IMO

This is an old thread but I actually haven't done anything to fix this. I wasn't worried about it until I had a couple people say they can see my axel twisting while driving. Anyone have any help on ladder bars with leaf springs. Any good websites to buy from. Also is it good to use with leaf springs. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

Traction bars just bolt your axle to your frame to eliminate the flipping up and down like the axle its self is trying to rotate the pinion to the tail lights. Its really hard for us to see or understand what its actually doing . You could be missing suspension pieces that would solve the problem.

Take a picture of the leaf spring mount at the axle. Then take pictures of the front and rear mounts of the leaf springs. Post them on here so we can all see what you are talking about. There should be a little wear pad between your springs and the spring mount pad on the axle. If it's worn out then your axle could be loose enough to wobble inside the u-bolts. I've had to replace them on my old 73 and my 75 before. Made a world of difference.....that and 3/4 ton springs in the rear. Lol.
