Default Looking to buy a 1979 F150 short bed.

I'm not sure if the motor is stock but I think it's an F150 custom with a straight 6, 4 speed manual granny gear so it may be.

Any tips before I go out to inspect it this weekend? I have some questions as well...

1. I know rust is always a huge issue, but these trucks are pretty old. Is there a decent rule of thumb for how much rust is too much? Obviously some surface body rust is not bad, and a frame that rusted through with holes is probably a lost cause, but what about in between?

2. Anything specific I should know about this year or model?

3. Also, how interchangeable is this generation of F150 parts, i.e. the 78, 77, etc.?

4. I see there is a lot of information and guides on the forum, is there any one place other than this particular subforum that's specific to the pre-87 models and information for them?

Here's a picture of the one I'm looking at. Thanks for any help and I hope you'll be seeing more of me in the future.

78 and 79 are almost identical and most parts go back to 73. As far as rust, your guidelines are good to follow. These trucks do rust but in different points depending where its spent most of it's life.Even here in Florida I've had issues with rear cab corners, above the drip rails and windshield, as well as rear lower quarter panels.

Welcome to the "dent side" world.

Thanks for the response. I'll be seeing it tomorrow and given the price and convenience, I really hope it's not a lost cause!
