help -- left turn signal indicator stuck on, left signal not working
Hey guys —
Running into crazy issue and looking for some advice, haven't seen a solution in any threads so far.
To start, my front driver's side parking light and side/running light haven't been working. All other lights are fine. Flashers, hazards, and turn signals on both sides are working just fine. 86 f150 4.9l i6.
Checked flasher fuse, light fuses, all good. Haven't replaced bulbs admittedly since turn signals have been working ok. Traced the electrical-tape bundle of wires back towards the firewall under brake booster/fluid reservoir, and found an area that had been pretty weathered/some cracks in tape. Cutting tape off, found dark brown wire to be frayed.
Pinched it together a bit, wrapped in quick layer of electrical tape, pop on the lights and my front parking and side light are working! Later on at night, get back into cab, turn on lights, then notice my left turn signal indicator is permanently lit up. Fired it up, hit turn right signal - everything normal. Hit left turn signal - and nothing. Slowly after 5-10 seconds, faintly murmurs/dims like a turn signal would, but slower pace and fainter dimming. Had read sometimes if you flick hazards on can help reset, didn't really help. Again before I got brown wire re-connected, my turn signals to left + hazards were working like normal, same as right turn signal.
Crimped the wires today, dark brown (and red with brown stripe that was also damaged), checked others around it, etc. All good. Hit lights again, and still same problem of left turn signal indicator being permanently lit up, and the left turn signal itself "struggling" for lack of better turn to pulsate like normal.
No idea what next step is, or if anyone has had a similar issue. Nice that all my lights now work, not too pleased about faulty turn signal. PO had done some shady wiring in general so hoping it's not some unique issue.
Any advice? What should I test out next? Still learning here in general
