I have an 86 I6 F-150 4X and want to put a 2bbl, new manifold and headers. The local shop said that headers are nothing but trouble. "...you will be replacing gaskets, dealing with leaks, just trouble." Is that the case? is it best to keep the stock exhaust manifold on?

I agree with the shop you wont notice a big differnce with headers on the I6. And its a pain tring to keep the exhaust leaks out.
