Yeah, I've seen '78's with both. It must've been a mid-year change.

It's a '79 with a 460 in it. Decent shape, needs new fuel system but the truck does run and I drove it home. Here's some generic shots to show condition.
*Dumb question... these didn't come with the 460 did they?

Yes on the 460. The other common engine was the 400, which got the same hideous milage but with noticibly less power. The 460 is an easy engine to get performance parts for. Go-fast parts for the 400 are largely unobtanium.

Looks like you have about 6k more miles than mine.
Kind of wish mine wasn't a dually but that was what i needed back in 84, its a 351M stroked to 400 and RV cam, runs and pulls great just weak on mpg although something that gets 14 mpg and i can fix anything on it is just as good as a computer controlled that costs a couple hundred or more every time you take it in is good by me, its the bottom bottom line to me especially just for knocking around plus the looks it gets since it doesn't look like all the rest.
Enjoy your ride and be thankful to have a dad to work on it with you, memories last forever.
And A/C to boot, lucky you.
This is mine before i started the restore on Jan. 4, 2017 and am now about ready to paint and reassemble, took it down to frame.
Your on a great site if you need help.

She's low income and just needed something cheap and fast so I think he'll take a reasonable offer. She didn't pay for it, she just decided she didn't want it and I don't know how long it's been sitting at her place, maybe a month or two.
It starts and drives, but she said it dies after a while. I doubt they towed it there.
I'm thinking 1k is pretty fair for both of us... at least I hope so, this will be a project for me and my 12 year old son. The plan is to have it finished when he turns 16 and my son wants a ford single cab.

I had a '79-F150 4x4 shortbed I put a 460 in many years ago. It had a 4" lift, 12.5/35 tires and 4.10 gears. It was a goin' machine! I still miss it.
