Yeah, I can see where that can happen.

There is a wire that feeds 12v to the instrument cluster & the Gauge Regulator. But, this would also have affected the Temperature Gage as well.

Both of those Gauges get their power from the Voltage Regulator and the V. Reg. gets its power from the Key Switch.
