Front end knock while braking in cold
Started this am- first legit cold night this year.. Hit brakes at low speed (maybe just no road noise to drown it out) knocking on hitting the pedal loose metal sounding like a ball joint but not when turning steering at all maybe on a bump but I hear it mostly braking to stop and a little when release pedal.. Ball joints newer, bushings LOOK fine at a quick glance, nothing blatantly noticeable.. Will take to work tomorrow and jack up the front and just wondered if anybody had any goodbyes of where to start or any past experiences like this

Probably just metal shrinkage on the feathers that hold the calipers in place allowing a small bit of movement. If it continued when its warmer then there may be a issue. Looking it over is fine.

Ya I put it in bay at work warm for four hours and when I left no noise til about 20 min down highway cold again. I have had an ongoing brake pad rattling issue, replaced the pins that hold the calipers in (why not bolts) but the only fix that works is duct tape behind brake pads.. My mechanic at work says I need springs behind pads which most vehicles have had but this one didn't have them when I got it and didn't come with any when I did pads.. Says I need to ask for them separately at store.. True? Haven't had a chance yet.. Or do I just need to do new calipers do they just get lazy over 29 years I imagine? Thanks man!

What year is your truck ? You could be getting or have wong parts. There are different part#s for calipers in 82 and 86. If you arent the original owner he or a parts store could have put wrong calipers on at some time.
