Exposed connections on wire harness
Good morning everyone, I am currently working on a 1985 ford f150 5.0L xl. I noticed the battery was getting drained, so i looked at the wire harness and it seemed to have some green corrosion on some of the wires. upon inspection after disconnecting the harness and un taping it. I saw that some connections are exposed. It almost seems intentionally, like a 2 inch section of insulation missing and the exposed section is a rectangular shape of copper wire. Is this normal? I will post a picture today if that helps.
Also when there is green corrosion in some of the connection, could this cause issues? any other suggestions for battery draining would be helpful. Thanks a lot. Jeremy |
No, a factory harness should be covered wire to the connector . If 2" is uncased it sounds intentional as if someone was tapping power from it. Battery drain could be a grounded power wire or a light left on like dome or a underhood. But if you are getting corosion on the stripped piece is carrying and leeching power. Wrap it well with electrical tape, making a new casing for that single wire. The draw could have killed the battery to where it wont hold charge.

pics of harness
JayzDaddy,
Thanks for the response. Yea it didn't look right that there would be multiple exposed wires. I just wanted to be sure before i corrected it. I will cut the wires and place insulator covers on these. I have provided pics of the wires in the harness. Thanks again. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...30cd3ef457.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...eac5e52a84.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...07e2fad082.jpg |

Someone may have done that installing an alarm or car stereo. Then they took it out.
