Default Exhaust questions... can someone please give me some input on this.

ok some one please help me out before i screw up and waste a bunch of money. i just recently purchased headers for my truck (85 f150 EFI 302) and planned on redueing my whole exhaust system and my plan has been headers with 2 1/4 collectors to duel 3" pipe into 3" flowmasters with 3" turn downs right behind the cab. Is this going to effect my engine performance at all running 3" pipe? the guy i bought my mufflers from said it would sound bad *** so i trusted that but ive been reading that running this 3" exhaust is going to kill my bottom end power and if so what should i do then? maybe 2 1/2 pipe into 2 1/2 mufflers instead of the 3" pipe and 3" mufflers??? Im open to all advice. thanks guys

What is the stock size? Going with a big pipe will lower the tone of it I have a 03 with a 5.4 we went from 2.5 to a 2 cut off and made it a true duel and stuck the 3in tips on it o yeah with headers and put glass packs on sound good nice low tone on the idle and know I'm coming when I get on it. If it was me I just go with 2.5 to the muffler and 3 the rest deff get back to the axle cause just under the cab will be cool for a min but will get old quick

well im guessing stock size is 2 1/4 because my collectors for my headers are 2 1/4 and they are made to fit up to the factory exhaust piping that is under the truck. so you think i should run like 2 1/2 from the headers to my mufflers then jump to 3" at the mufflers and come out of the outlet side with 3" pipe?

I'd stick with dual 2.5" all the way through. If you're doing a SI/DO muffler then 3" to dual 2.5".

i was planning on doing headers, no cats and 2 flowmaster 40 series delta force race mufflers, single in single out, coming off the headers with 3" into the 3" mufflers and turn downs right out the mufflers.

If your engine is mostly stock, stick with 2" or 2 1/2" in a dual configuration.

You plan to use Flowmaster mufflers. I would call them and ask for Support and talk to them about it. You can do that online as well.

Take your pipes all the way to the back. Nothing sounds worse, or is more irritating than pipes resonating (drone) underneath you.
