engine runs backwards
hello guys, I got a problem. I have an 85 f150 302, picked it up this winter and got it running. never drove it just around house. I put new wires,plugs.cap/rotor got it sounding good. I went to park it and it stalled, try to restart but battery went dead, well snow/cold just getting around to run it again and heres the problem, its got gas{nozzles squirting} its got good spark but while cranking it wont fire at all, not even a puff but as soon as let off the key it will fire backwards like preignition.
I go under the hood and jump solenoid watch fan rotate the right way, nothing, as soon as I stop cranking the engine fires backwards fan spinning wrong way and blows smoke out carb, my guess is firing all 8 cylinders twice backwards, kinda funny really rrrrrrhpfphfphf.
checked timing at tuneup, was good, chain seemed ok by light. ideas?

engine "dieseling" is the only thing I know that can cause that to happen, Have you checked your cap and rotor since it has been parked? (moisture likes to hide in the cap causing corrosion on the contacts which cause a weak spark).

That almost has to be the timing chain.

sounds like the ''start side ''of the distributor died.
to check it turn the key to the on position
go under the hood and remove the small wire to the solenoid [that activates it] and jump start it with a screwdriver .
should start up.

I was just reading an article about a distro cap having way too much resistance. The spark "looked" good, but the engine wouldnt start or run.
Food for thought.
