Greetings, earlier today as I was driving my truck to get gas I stopped put it in park, then turned the key to turn off the ignition, took key out, and the engine still kept running. I was able to put the key back in and turn it to the right even though the engine was still running. It made a grinding sound then I turned it off and the engine stopped as normal. I thought this must be just by chance, but, it happened again later today.

Any thoughts? I did read a thread from a few days ago here that sounded similar, but wasn't sure if I have the same situation. I did replace the started solenoid about two weeks ago. I have a 1977. Thanks.

 

Sounds to me like your switch may be going.
