Don't be afraid to rebuild your Carter YFA carb
 

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm not a mechanic by far but I wanted to give my advice.
I just picked up a project 85 f150. It needs plenty work. it was not starting unless gas was poured into the carb.
yesterday I removed it to attempt to rebuild it. I picked up a kit at my local parts shop for under $25. I thought it was going to be a nightmare.
1.5 hours later I reinstalled and it fired it up. WOW! After I made a few adjustment its running like a kitten.
So what I'm trying to say is those rebuild kits are not really so hard to do. Just take time and take lots of pictures along the way. It will really pay off in the end.
