different ignition modules?

I recently swapped out an automatic transmission for a manual in my '86 5.0 liter F150. It seems to run very smoothly as long as I increase the pressure on the gas pedal very smoothly. If I try to push it, it wants to balk or doesn't ramp up the rpms quickly. It even seems to top out sooner than I think it should (although I do not have a tachometer).
I have heard that ignition control modules on trucks with Automatics and trucks with Manual transmissions are different. I've not been able to find anything that shows different modules while looking for parts and was wondering if anybody else had heard this? Mine is the one attached directly to the distributor with the dielectric grease smeared in between.

No difference between Auto & Manual with TFI.
Some differences between Dizzy mount & Fender mount.
The ECA usually has a different Calibration for AT, MT, 4x4, High altitude etc....

Is there some way to decipher the coding on the ECA so I can order the right one? I replaced the one I had through RockAuto.com some time ago but all I had to do was give them the exact part number/serial numbers and they did the matching.
I know that it is a solid state device, so the programming can't be changed. What you see is what you get.

Do you still have the Calibration Code on your engine? Usually on passenger Valve Cover.

I'm pretty sure this is what you are talking about. I don't remember where I got them but I have them written in my Chilton's with the word "calibration" next to them.

My book shows, for; 6-54G-R00 is a; E6TZ 12A650-ABA / E6TF 12A650-ABA

2 Wheel Drive ?

Does your Manual Tranny have Over-Drive?

4 Speed?

What's wrong with your current Computer/ECA ?

I think that the ECA would work perfectly for its original calibration. That would be the 5.0 liter EFI with auto transmission. I now have the same engine but a 4 speed with manual transmission with granny (Borg). It is still two wheel drive. Your earlier post indicated that an ECA was calibrated for different applications, i.e. manual vs. auto, high altitude, etc.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I think there is a different calibration for the Manual Transmission; E6TF-12A650-VA, and -SA for the overdrive tranny.

But, can't be much of a difference, since the ECA does not communicate with either AT or MT in 86' tranny's.

I guess I would try the original ECA first if I had an issue with my original ECA.

There would be merit if I thought I had ECA issues just after replacing the tranny.

I'm assuming you have been troubleshooting the Codes, Sensors and Components on the engine as well.
