Question boggled brain!!

Can you tell me what this part is on my 1986 ford f 150 302... it is a belt driven cylinder shaped object. there is a short belt that runs from this to the altinator under it. Not the slightest clue waht it is but there is a sticker on it that read must have 100 mile break in. Can you tell me what this is for and what it;s purpose is
thanks pat

belt driven objects on your truck alternator, crankshaft, ac compressor, maybe an air pump, tensioner, water pump, power steering. you may not have all of these on your particular truck, so good luck and happy hunting
