83 f150 5.0l 302
I just bought it, cant get the engine running. was told the engine was rebuilt 5k miles ago.
he said it needed the distributor adjusted and that was it.
i have been cranking on it and adjusting but all i get is a pop or "pffft"
If i adjust the distributor one direction, the pop and pfft comes out of the carb, if i adjust the other way it comes out of the exhaust.
i cant find the sweet spot in between.
also on plug harness that has the ignit. coils + there is another red wire that comes out next to the Ignit. coil pos..
If i put 12v to this wire, my igniton coil fires constantly and then a few seconds later it stops.
if i connect it to the positive on the coil, if acts like i turned the key on ( key was already on) buzzer goes off and all the **** that normally happens when the key gets turned on.
just wanted to know if this wire was important or the reason it wont start up.
PS everytime i crank it over i pour a small amount of gas in the carb.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Update, i have since notice that the plugs wires were hooked up clockwise instead of counter-clockwise (HEI distributor turns counter-clockwise), i fixsed this now im back to getting nothing again.

i got it running, yes distributor is 180 out, i need to restab it, but for now i just have the wires moved around the cap enough for it to run, i put the light on number 4, saw the line and set it to the advance mark.
guy i bought it from said he wasnt sure what cam was in it apparently someone else rebuilt it. he said it was something like rv 170 or 180 something like that.
had between 135 and 120 PSI in all cylinders cept for number seven (second from the back on right side) it only had 75psi
given the smoke out of the oil fill, i would say something to do with rings, stickers say 07 he says its only been sitting 2 yrs.
stuck ring meybe>> hope its not a cracked ring. im really hoping its just the headgasket blew through to an oil jacket.
what do yall think??
