Is This 86 f-150 a Decent Deal?
So I have been looking for a work truck to replace my current rig that I have outgrown. I came across this 86 f-150 2 wheel drive with a 351 Windsor. The Odomoter supposedly stopped working at 50000 miles and it runs and drives well, no rust either because it's in the south. He's asking 2500 for it. What should I look for when I take a look at it. Also, might this truck be too old to use for a daily driver work truck.

Yes, $2500 is too much, especially down south. 2 wheel drive pickups of this year go for less than $1000, and 4x4 pickups go for around $1500. He's got too much pride and personal attachment tied up in this vehicle.

If it's in really good shape it might be worth it. Expect to put some money into it for a daily driver though. You'll have to take it from where it is to totally dependable.
But lots of people will take a decent truck in that price range and throw a few thousands at it to make it really good.
Their reasoning is that they know exactly what they'll get at the dealership for 5 or 10 thousand - not much.

Take it for a long test drive, at least a hour at highway speed. Then check for leaks, over heating, and the trans isn't slipping. Things to look for if it has high mileage, if you sink too much in the driver seat, and the rubber on the brake pedal is gone or has excessive wear. The AODs (4 speed) were weak in those years, but the C6 (3 speed) was a strong transmission. Almost everyone will talk down on their asking price.
