85 f150 302 coolant struggle!

What temp thermostat did they put in? If I remember correctly it should be a 180 degree. If they put a higher temp one in it will run hotter. Just a thought how full is the radiator when cold? It should be within a inch of the filler cap. Also how old it the cap and is it a 13lb cap? How old are the hoses from the radiator to the block, Were they replaced with the radiator change?
Hope this helps

It's a 190-195. Should I worry about that?
I have a two day old cap on it, 13 lb.
and the coolant stays up there. Since the sender swap I have driven a few times. Seems a bit better. But now that you mention it should be 180 that concerns me. Do you think I should swap it?

That might explain the higher temp reading, that said as long as it does not over heat there should be no problem driving normally, I would not carry heavy loads or tow with it, until I got the 180 thermostat installed.

As long as it stays in the "normal" range (between the bars) on the gauge you should be fine. Mine trends about 1/4 almost 1/2 (just below the R) in the winter with the heater/defroster running and just above 1/2 almost to 3/4 (at a point between M and A closer to M) in the summer with the AC running of the "normal" range. And as a preventative maintenance I am going to change the 10 year old thermostat this spring as my coolant will be 4 years old and I plan to drain and flush the system.
