Question 80-86 F150s (bullnoses)

So I'm fairly certain that Ford introduced their twin traction beam front suspension in this generation. My question is, were all of the bullnoses fitted with this junk? I'm planning on doing a sort of restoration on one at some point since they're my fav bodystyle, but if they all have that setup, I might just steer clear of them.

why do you dislike the ttb? its very durable and easy to align really...maybe you dont understand how to set them up? unless you want to install a huge lift, not sure why you dislike them. they are easy to service if you have the tools.
twin traction beam has been on them since the 60s, until 96-97..

The 80-96 f150s have a coil sprung dana 44 ttb, the 80-90 f250s have a leaf sprung dana 44HD, and the 80-85 f350s have a dana 50 ttb, the 86-91 had a kingpin solid axle dana 60. 91-97 f250s got the dana 50 ttb. From 1992-97 fthe f350's dana 60 had balljoints instead of kingpins. The kingpins are preferred. A little confusing, but basically what you are looking for is a 85.5-86 F350 to get the good dana 60, or get any 80-86 and swap the dana 60 from an 86-97. It would probably be easiest to get a 80-86 f250, and buy a rusted out f350 parts truck and have everything you need to swap the axle over. Street value for just the axle alone with no brakes, no steering, and no suspension is about $900 in MN. I recently was lucky enough to find an 88 f350. Not too rusty but when it gets bad I will swap over the dana 60 to my 86 F250. Also the TTB in f150s are probably better than the f250s. They work better for off-road capabilities. With the f150 you get a nice ride, it can take jumps if need be and you have more articulation. With the f250 when the suspension articulates, it is twisting the leaf spring. Because of this your springs are even more stiff than the f350 springs. There goes your smooth ride...

I absolutely love my ttb suspension I plan on upgrading to a Dana 50 ttb and keeping cool springs so I can run bigger tires off road without worrying about axle shafts. They ride smoother than most 4x4’s and if you think about it in theory are more durable than their solid counterparts because they can flex.

The dana 50 is not set up for coils without fabrication. I have TTB and it isn't bad, but it can't hold an alignment to save it's life, and I've heard its even worse if you wheel. They are known also to wear more on the passenger tire too. Solid axle swap isn't cheap, but its the best option if you are trying to modify.

I’m in school for welding and have a machine, won’t be hard to make it work.
