engine dies and low idle 1979 f150
so i have a 1979 ranger f-150 and i cant figure out whats wrong...it idles very low and dies at low speeds (15 below). and finally about a week ago it died in traffic and now wont start...or turn on. but "does" jumpstart right away..plzz hellppp oh and the battery is also slowly dying

If battery is slowly dying then you can pull it and bring it to Autozone to see if it is good. If it is then you can have it charged and crank her up and use a multimeter to see if it is the alternator. Just check voltage before start (should be 12 or a little more) then check again while running. It should be 14ish. If not then the alternator is the problem. Anyway sounds like battery or alternator and it jump starts so......

Well....no, but as far as getting you started without a jump it is prudent to check those things. Now the low idle and such to me would be adjustment of idle screw. I don't have much experience with a carb vehicle though. I suppose that could be many things causing that, but to get it started I think it makes sense to check battery and alternator especially since it jumpstarts. It could very well be fuel and many other things too, obviously.
