1986 F150 Heater Core
Pulled out my old leaky heater core only to find that what they sell as a replacement won't fit. Checked Auto Zone, NAPA, Baxter, they all sell the same thing. (Auto Zone was the cheapest by the way) I am going to see if I can just get my original brass heater core rebuilt. I will have to make a gasket for it since I am sure if they no longer make the brass core, they probably don't make the gasket. Anyone have the same experience, or if you got the new replacement to fit, how did you do it?

Just went through the same thing on my 85. Only core that fits is the brass/copper replacement, none of the aluminum ones fit. Rock Auto online sells them for about $40 I think, but I would talk to them first and make sure it is what they show. I just went with a junkyard one for now and it works fine.

Check the production date of your truck, should be on the driverside door frame. I have a close friend who went through the same thing, turns out, his build date is SEP 1985, which it is a 1985 , however it has a 1984 heater core in it, just something to think about.

KedwinH - You are correct! I just got off of Rockautos web site and ordered the original brass and copper one. Ran $61 with shipping and now they only have one left. What did you do for the gasket? Mine tore taking it out.
