Default 1983 f150 what size rims?

I have a 1983 f150 that I am trying to restore, or at least make it road worthy. The tires on it are shot. The tires that came with it are size p215/75r15 the truck sits low to the ground. I want to beef the truck up a bit, and thought maybe I should get some bigger rims. Can I fit a larger tire on this truck? Also any thoughts as too where to get truck rims, I am looking for solid rims that don't need a hub cap.
Thanks.

Yes, you can fit bigger tires on it as well as larger rims if you want, usually up to 31" tall without having to modify suspension or body panels. Rims can be obtained from a variety of locations, even as low as $50 (each) for a cheap set of steel rims with the classic white look. Craigslist is a good place to look also for stock and aftermarket Ford rims.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info. Ya I would like it to look sharp in the end. I'm going to repair some rust spots and then paint it, so some white rims will look nice.

I have a 1982 f-150 and , you can go as large as 33x12:50x15 tires with out suspension work or cutting the fenders.

Default What size tire?

What size would you recommend? The guy I bought it from, basically has passenger car tires on it. So I want something suitable for a truck, to get it up off the ground a bit, but nothing crazy big (which will just add to my cost for rims and tires).

Is the stock tire size written on the vehicle identification plate on the inside of the driver side door jamb? This would be a good place to start.

Tire size is subjective. The truck as mentioned above has the tire size recommended by ford on the drivers side door piller. My 1982 f-150 reads: P215x75xr15l. A 33inch tire is about as far as you can go before needing fender or suspension alteration. I am currently running 31 inch tires and i can put up to a 33 x 12:50 x15 tire with out any alterations at all.

Default Tire size

You are right. It's funny I'm heading out this morning to look at a set of rims and tires from off Craigslist. They are 31's from off a 1996 Ford Bronco. I think all that matters is they have the same bolt circle. All the info I find online is that is the cutoff year and that they should fit. Hope it works out, need tires pretty bad.

They should fit. While i'm there at the place , i would bolt on one tire and rim to be sure. They should fit. I am currently running a set of 31's and i have tons of room left. I put a 33 inch tire on once and still room. Hope it works out for you.
