Default Complete Rear End Swap

I have a 1975 F150 Super Cab, it has the 460 engine and a C-6 trans. I want to swap the whole rear end housing etc out for a strong limited slip with disc brakes. Can anyone tell me what is the newest rear end assembly that will interchange with this? If not then can someone direct me to where I can get the parts to do this change over with my existing rear end? The truck is 2 wheel drive. Thanks in advance.

Its more than just sticking in the axle. You would need a new master cyl that fits your bolt holes and is for 4 wheel disc.

Why do you want disc? You know the rear is only responsible for 20-30% of the braking. Its almost a worthless upgrade. In order to make it worthwhile you would need a full system designed to work together.

The 460 is being built using Kasse Boss 9 heads, expected to make around 700 hp, I need something strong with limited slip, and I figured a little extra stopping power wouldn't hurt. Yes I do realize its more then just replacing the axle. I was hoping someone had done a build along this line and could save me some grief from just using trial and error. I have seen several really nice rear end systems put in 460 fox mustang builds. That's the direction I want to go in, just for a F150. Anyone have any suggestions?

I thought about doing this at one time and others, many old school hot rodders and racers, gave me advice. A bit of what i was told was, the possible expense , that drum brakes actually have more surface area, clamping force, and are still used to stop the big big trucks , like 450/550/650s.

Now i was told a explorer 8.8 would swap in to my 86. But it lacks strength .

Ifn i was doing one behind that much power i think id find a 9" for cheap and build it. Gut it , use just the housing. Add gussets, being a truck ladder bars might be necessary with the longer distance between tail shaft and pinion. 35 spline axles are pretty much a must. Might even consider a gm 12 bolt or a sterling rear end. You probably could find axle shafts with the big 5 lug pattern. You definately dont want a c clip axle for that power.

i just did the same, I swaped my old axle and replaced it with a ram truck 9.25 with and you can use your same wheels, because of the bigger rear discs you will need a bigger (17 inches min.) wheels.

it is a limited slip differential, which you can get with normal drums brakes, if you dont want to change wheels. Its not an easy swap, you will have to remove the bases for the leaf springs, and weld them closer together. OAL is about 3 inches larger, if you dont mind. I made the swap because I got this axle for free from a friend.

tried to go the explorer way, and found that everybody thought of this swap as going backwards. I also have a 460 on the works and should get aprox. 450-500 hp.

put some pictures, please.
